Galleria Tonelli

It was 1986, and in Corso Magenta, a young couple made a bold choice, indeed a gamble. They opened a small gallery, which took the owners’ last name, just like the old stores. Vico had worked in art before, but not in a gallery, and Mara came from other experiences, but her husband’s passion was contagious. So in the mid-1980s, a small gallery was born in Corso Magenta, Tonelli Gallery, and with it, shortly thereafter, Vico and Mara’s sons: Ciro and Luigi.
Tonelli Gallery began as a gallery of works on paper. For two young gallery owners, it was easier economically to start with exhibitions of drawings, rather than getting great paintings right away, and then only from the drawing can you grasp the value and the artistic idea. Thus exhibitions of Afro, Balla, Victor Brauner, Campigli, Capogrossi, De Chirico, Fontana (from studies for the V door of the Duomo to studies for spatial environments), Piero Guccione, Manzu, Marino Marini, Scanavino, and Sironi, to name but a few, followed one another.
So Ciro and Luigi immediately became passionate interpreters of their father’s will and inherited his passion for aesthetic research. Thus it is that in 2015 the new Tonelli Gallery was born on the other side of the same street, Corso Magenta. Tonelli Gallery today has three locations, the two on Corso Magenta in Milan and the one in the Costa Smeralda. Working with internationally renowned artists such as Pablo Atchugarry, Sergio Fermariello and all artists in the contemporary market are treated.
